How Losing Trust in My Intuition Led to Business Burnout
Learning to trust your intuition during major business decisions again becomes essential for moving forward. My journey from burnout to renewal taught me that balancing analytical thinking with intuitive wisdom creates the strongest foundation for sustainable success.
When I hit burnout in my integrative psychiatry practice in 2020, I realized something crucial was missing: trusting my intuition when making business decisions. My once-clear business instincts had become clouded by exhaustion. This loss of intuitive connection is why burnout can be so disorienting for professionals who’ve always relied on their inner compass to guide their work.
The Devil in Second Best: When Fear Delays Intuitive Business Decisions
At a 2022 Sedona art retreat called “The Naked Truth,” I confronted my resistance to fully committing to my new coaching business. The experiential exercise required working with another artist’s abandoned canvas, which perfectly mirrored my business transition challenges.
When I hesitated to choose a canvas, my first choice was taken—a perfect metaphor for how delaying trust in your intuition for business decisions can cost you opportunities. I settled for my second choice, finding the beginnings of a “devil” in the center—exactly the symbol I needed to explore my pattern of overthinking rather than trusting my instincts.
Many business owners struggle to trust their intuition in business decisions when facing transitions. We analyze, compare, and delay rather than listening to our inner knowing that already has the answer.
Recognizing Your “Devilish Disruptors” in Business Decision-Making
The “devil” in my artwork represented my tendency toward comparison and perfectionism—the very things blocking me from trusting my business intuition. When we delay important business decisions due to overthinking:
- We experience frustration and dissatisfaction
- Financial opportunities may be missed
- We distance ourselves from our authentic business values
Trusting your intuition in business decisions means recognizing these disruptors when they appear and moving through them rather than getting stuck in analysis paralysis.
Reconnecting With Your Intuition for Strategic Business Success
To rebuild trust in your intuition for business decisions, try these practices that helped me break through my decision delays:
- Create art that represents your internal blocks (painting, collage, writing)
- Notice where resistance physically manifests in your body
- Play with moving that sensation or transforming it into creative energy
- Keep visual reminders of these insights in your workspace
When my clients work playfully with their “worst” traits, they uncover deeper limitations and move toward more intuitive, empowered business choices. They learn to trust their intuition in business decisions by integrating both analytical thinking and intuitive wisdom.
From Burnout to Breakthrough: The Power of Trusting Your Intuition When Making Business Decisions
By 2022, my extended “thinking time” had turned into harmful delay. My finances reflected this indecision. Just as in childbirth, there comes a point where you cannot delay the inevitable—you must trust your intuition in business decisions and move forward despite uncertainty.
When we operate from our center, combining intuition with strategy, business becomes thrilling rather than draining. We create from both “positive” and “negative” energies when we learn how to transform our frustrations into clear direction.
